How You Achieved Your Desired Length/Health: "On November 2, 2012 I officially started my Healthy Hair Journey. I tossed out all of my old products and purchased new ones. I began to wash with a sulfate free shampoo and deep condition 2 x per week. I incorporated pre-pooing, started to moisturize and seal daily, and began wearing protective styles 6 to 7 days a week. I learned the art of finger detangling and most importantly; I put down the flat iron and buried my blow dryer deep in the closet. After 1 month my hair was in 100% better condition!"

Reasons for doing the Big Chop: "I big chopped because I've always had fairly short relaxed hair ever since I was little and I felt I was limiting myself to my true natural beauty. I was very curious about my natural hair and decided to say "what the heck". I got it cut into a low temp fade kind of cut. My relaxed hair was constantly shedding and felt dry and it seemed I was at the point of NO RETURN even when I did start my healthy hair journey in July 2012. I LOVE My Hair FADED and I just wanted to start from scratch."

Reasons for doing the Big Chop: "I decided to big chop earlier than planned because I just couldn't take it anymore! The two different textures of hair was killing me and I would waste so much time in the morning trying to style my hair just to give up and put it in a bun. I wasn't (and still am not) using heat so I couldn't flat iron it to make the textures slightly similar. Also I was watching a lot of youtube video's of girls doing the BC and I just became inspired!"

My new goals: "My goal as a new Naturalista is to just grow out my hair as healthy as I can. I'd like to one day reach waist length, but I'm not putting a time frame on it. I'll be doing some protective styles (like now I have in senegalese twists) and just wearing my natural hair out! She was beginning to question her own beauty. I couldn't have that. Needless to say my relaxer stretch turned into a 15 month transition period. My natural hair was at a length I was comfortable with and I was over the two texture madness. So I big chopped."
